Nutrition for All Ages — What to Eat at Every Stage of Life

Good nutrition looks different at every stage of life. The meals that fuel a growing child are not the same as those that support a senior's health — and understanding those differences can make a real difference to how you feel every day.

At The Pot, we cook for the whole family. Here is what we know about eating well at every age.

Children (Under 12)

Growing bodies need a steady supply of protein, calcium, iron and healthy fats. Children also need plenty of variety — exposure to different flavours and textures early in life builds adventurous, healthy eaters.

Our meals for younger eaters are mild in flavour, packed with hidden vegetables and perfectly portioned. Dishes like our Hidden Veg Bolognese with Lentil Pasta deliver iron and fibre without the fuss. Lentils, chickpeas and lean meats provide the protein growing bodies need, while plantain and sweet potato offer slow-release energy to keep them going all day.

Teenagers (13–17)

Teenagers are growing fast and often very active — which means they need more calories, more protein and more iron than almost any other age group. Skipping meals or relying on processed food during these years can affect energy, concentration and mood.

Our Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas, Beef Suya Bowl and Teriyaki Salmon are all high in protein and complex carbohydrates — exactly what a hungry teenager needs after school or sport.

Adults (18–64)

For most adults, the goal is balance — enough protein to maintain muscle, enough fibre to support digestion, and enough variety to get all the vitamins and minerals the body needs. Anti-inflammatory foods become increasingly important as we move through our thirties and forties.

Our menu is built around this balance. Dishes like Dahl Makhani, Harissa Roasted Cauliflower and Chickpea Tray and Moroccan Lamb Meatballs are rich in fibre, plant-based protein and anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric, cumin and ginger.

Seniors (65+)

As we age, our nutritional needs shift again. Appetite often decreases, but the need for nutrients — particularly protein, calcium, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids — remains high or even increases. Easy-to-digest, nutrient-dense meals become especially important.

Our Fish Pie, Chicken Casserole and Lentil and Spinach Dahl are all gentle on digestion, rich in key nutrients and deeply satisfying — without requiring any effort in the kitchen.
